Possesing two master degrees in social psychology and legal/criminological psychology, Adrianus Meliala also gets a Ph.D in Criminology from the University of Queensland, Australia. In 2006, he is appointed as full Professor in Criminology at the Faculty of Social & Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, Jakarta. He is a specialist in legal-judicial, security & police reform issues as well as forensic psychology. Besides working as an academic staff, Adrianus Meliala closely engages other institutions such as the Indonesia National Police and the Crime Prevention Foundation in Indonesia, either as lecturer or consultant.”

Kriminolog Universitas Indonesia, Adrianus Meliala, menduga ada keterlibatan oknum mahasiswa dari kampus tersebut dengan kelompok teroris Abu Omar yang baru saja diringkus polisi. Pasalnya, kata Adrianus, ditemukan senjata api yang ditanamkan kelompok tersebut di kawasan Hutan UI, Depok, Jawa Barat.
Experts on city crime blamed the media for painting a bleak picture of Jakarta and portraying it as a dangerous city. University of Indonesia crime expert Adrianus Meliala said that the media was responsible for scaring Jakarta residents by depicting Jakarta as a crime-ridden city when, in fact, statistics showed only a small number of criminal acts recorded in the city.
A group of lawyers have challenged the 2002 Police Law that places the police under direct auspices of the President, a policy they say may jeopardize the force’s professionalism. The lawyers — Andi Asrun, Dorel Almir and Merlina — filed their petition to the Constitutional Court on Thursday. They are currently representing Zainal Arifin Hoesein, a former staffer at the Constitutional Court who claimed to have been wrongly charged by the police in a forgery case involving a top Democratic Party politician.
